Languido, Languida

by Ilaria Boffa, March, 2026

Have you ever walked on a riverbank on a spring morning and been fully sound-showered by the symphony of our other-than-human fellows singing together? Your local birds flying from tree to tree and diving to hunt and feed, insects buzzing between your legs, grass swishing in the dew while your wellies find way through a green-muddy meadow.

EAPS collective performance is all about this to me, our distinct voices whirlwinding and then floating and merging and meandering, as water does during its journey towards the sea.

And a theme to guide us, a North Star; it’s there, no need to go fully visible. At times engaging with its meaning, its sound and frequency, or letting ourselves wander in the landscape of the evoked images.

Languido, languida, a longing word for a melancholic world. Nostalgia for the yet to come, for the unknown. What if futurity has been? What if desiderium, missing the stars, was missing us, our languid species?

E lucevan le stelle, e olezzava la terra, …Oh! Dolci baci, o languide carezze (Tosca, opera)

Whatever process of writing and field recording I embark on, lines and sonic composition always start with listening into, towards, across, listening with the missing, a cycle of openness-aha-awe-go! driven by the theme itself; language experiments with experimentation, and vibrates with reverberation. It eaps eapsss! It’s so electroacoustical & poetical, so fun!

Curator’s Note: Ilaria’s sonic experiments are available in earlier and later EAPS broadcasts.

I am an Italian poet and sound recordist having fun with bilingual lines. My books and sonopoems descend the river of environmental awareness and shoot the rapids of observation, research and experimentation. My work can be found here: LinkTreeIG , SoundCloud.
