Flotsam, Jetsam

by Marjorie Van Halteren, March 2026
I’m trying to remember how EAPS started. It’s only been a few years. We ended up with the current six of us. I trust the other five, which is important because I am not an editor. If there is a technical problem with what I’m sent I will communicate about that, but I don’t want to be a gatekeeper. Since I am the sixth poet, I find it incompatible to critique the other artists when I myself am putting something out. Like them I do my best to make my piece turn out well but who knows? So we go with it. I think every artist needs a situation like that, where you have confidence wrapped around you, while at the same time you remain your own sharpest critic. This seems to be paying off. Flotsam, Jetsam, Marjorie Van Halteren, 2025 About the “prompt” word. What I can say, as the person that puts all the pieces together to make the program, the use of the prompt word does really create something, no matter how loosely adhered to. When the pieces are banged together, a resonance is generated, like hitting a big metal sheet or a piece of fine crystal. Marjorie Van Halteren: I spent the first 20 years of my adult life in New York City, getting into radio. I have lived in France since 1992. I am a member of Muzzix, a contemporary/experimental/improvisational collective. My instruments: field recordings, objects, voice, words, synthesizer, electronics, sheer gall. <<< return to hear all EAPS artists |
